End of Round 5

2014 (and Round 5) ends for New Maximiliania with the following statistics:
Current head count is at 183 - that is considerably lower than last year (214), and much lower than the all-time high of 239 Sims who populated the neighbourhood in 2011.
A total of 72 births (since foundation of the 'hood in 2008) could not counterbalance the 109 deaths that have occurred since that time.

It will be interesting to see how things develop in Round 6. Many of the Sims who were adults when the game began have died of old age, some more have lost their lives in fires, and very few through other causes. A small group of students is currently at university, while quite a few children and teenagers are waiting to grow up.

Births only happen when a Sim (or one of their parents) needs children (or grandchildren) for their lifetime want - or when a male Sim is abducted by Aliens and returns pregnant.

The most widespread family in New Max are the Capps - that surname won't die out any time soon!

For Round 6, I have plans: I want to re-organize the layout of the neighbourhood, get rid of the bugged lots (some cause overlaying graphics bugs with other lots) and finally include the residential and community lots from the Maxis-made 'hoods that are not in the lots & houses catalogue.

But before I'll get started on that huge work (it'll take ages, since the game freezes every time I delete one of the buggy lots), I shall play The Sims 4!
I did not get it for Christmas, but instead bought it for myself today.

In case we don't "hear" from each other before, here's wishing all of you a Happy New Year!

  1. I think you have a serious aging problem. These 5 rounds are 35 simyears. In 35 years you have lost 21% of your population (2009->231 to 2014->183) if you continue with this rate in 2019 you will have around 140 sims and in 2024 around 115 sims. The good thing is that you have stabilised your births to 1.3 children per year the last 21 years but still very low birthrate. Maybe you must take some actions...Sorry statistic geek :-)

    1. Those statistics are very interesting, thank you! Actually, my long-term goal for this project is to see which family or which households the neighbourhood will narrow down to eventually. So, the less Sims, the better!

  2. That looks fair and your game is more a lot. Your population in New Max declined with students, adults and elders died out, most notably are the cases of death by fire accidents. Round 5 looks good and 6 will be better.

    1. Thank you, Anonymous! I am looking foward to Round 6 and may even starter sooner than expected - last night, I was unable to install TS4 on my computer, although Origin said it was "preparing to install" for hours...

  3. yeah for sims 2 but boo for the sims 4. It does take a long time for it to install. Mine to at least a couple of hours. But i didn't like sims 4 so i gave it to my daughter who loves it. Have a happy new year if you don't post before then.

    1. Really?! It took two hours?? Well, in that case, I'll just start again and hope for the best - I simply couldn't believe it was just sitting there endlessly, saying "preparing for installing" without anything happening.

    1. It worked perfectly and smoothly the next morning! I took note of the time: start 11.35, prompted to insert disc 2 at 11.49, ready to play at 11.58! I've played the tutorial and built a house. I have also played one of the Maxis-made households for a while. It still takes some getting used to, but so far, I very much like what I see. It feels as if this game combines the best of TS2 with what I like about TS3.

    1. It's good so far, but I am still only just discovering. Unfortunately, the game crashes every now and then, and so I make sure I save everytime something happens that I do not want to have to repeat.

  6. I dislike The Sims 4, as well as TS3 and neither I play them both, but I loved TS2 in over 10 years since it came out in 2004 and I addicted with the game. I had a dozen of TS2 breaks during my real life period (2005-06, 2007-09, 2011-12). I first played The Sims (1) in 2001 after being saw from my brother.

    1. TS2 is still my favourite Sims game; I somehow never really got "into" TS3, although I loved to play the adventures in France - everything there was so beautifully set up with much love to detail. For what I have seen so far, there is plenty to like about TS4. Some things in the game are what I (and many other players, as I know from many discussions in the forums) would have loved to see in TS2:
They can talk while cooking or doing other household chores; they can sit on their beds (two of them next to each other) and eat and talk; they don't get so unrealistically rich after just a few days of work; they don't create traffic jams all the time when a few Sims are visiting the same place, and so on.
I, too, first played The Sims in January 2001, and TS2 from the day it was released.

  7. What a great round up for the end of Round 5. Some interesting Stats and even more interesting to see how many Capp families you have!

As you can see I have my blog back (yay for hubby finding old 'phone had not been thrown away but buried in a cupboard) so I was able to re-access my account. I hope to continue blogging Pleasantview wishes again in the not too distant future.

My Sims4 didn't take long to install at all but I admit I have not played at all for several months owing to family matters. Happily all (and everyone) are well again and so I should have more time to devote to playing.

I do like TS4, am still getting used to it but it's certainly not and never will be TS2 which is my favourite. That being said I can see it's appeal and there is a lot I do like about it.

    1. Looks like we feel pretty much the same about TS4. Just been doing some building; I find it easier as in TS3 but not as intuitive as TS2.

Good to know your family are all well again, and you'll continue with Pleasantview wishes! I am looking forward to some good morning reads again :-)

Whether you play The Sims 2 yourself or not, it would be great hearing from you. As I will reply to comments regularly, please remember to come back if you have asked a question.
