Where Are They?!

What follows on the alphabetical list of Maxis-made Sims after Roque? That's right, Roth. So, I was about to start a week with the Roth family last night after work... and could not find them!!

Where are they?

I checked the main 'hood of New Maximiliania, the shopping district (where I have placed all the apartment lots, many shops and other community lots as well as the cemetery) and Downtown (where there are some more community lots and a few residential ones). But the Roths are nowehere to be found.

I know they have not all died (Stella and Morty have, but the younger generation were alive and kicking when I last saw them). The only explanation I can think of is that I accidentally deleted the entire lot, house, Sims, dogs and all.
Do you remember the weird graphics bugs I experience from time to time in New Max? An example is here. When that started to happen more frequently, I began bulldozing some of the affected (empty!) lots, intending to re-organize New Maximiliania anyway before the start of my next round. Maybe I got a little too enthusiastic with the bulldozing and unwittingly erased the Roths' lot from my 'hood.

They are not in the family bin, nor in the Lots & Houses catalogue. I've even checked the entire Sims contents of the 'hood in SimPE - no Roths there.
Two more things I have not tried yet: 1. Check my last back-up of New Max and see if they are still there; in that case, I could package their lot and add it to my current game as if they were a download. 2. Check out any other family in New Max, see if they have the Roths as friends, and have them invite them over (if they still do exist in the relationship panel).

Any other ideas on how to recover the Roths are welcome!

  1. i thought you couldn't delete a house with sims in it? I would try both suggestions. first one try and find somebody who has them as friend but that also could take a lot of time. Or if they are from another backup download might be quicker. Usually if i have deleted a sim not very often. I just remake them.

    1. Well, I somehow must have done it - how else can they AND their house have disappeared?
Remaking them is not an option for me; I am not that good and could never recreate them exactly the way they were, and I always KNOW they wouldn't be the original Sims...

  2. If you can't recover the Roths, what are you going to do?

  3. BTW, When you get to Summerdream, is it going to be The Summerdream Week VII or Summerdream-Pleasant Week XI First.

    1. Depends on who comes first on the list of Sims who go by the surname of Summerdream. Titania comes last, Oberon comes before Puck, Bottom is first I think. Therefore, it should be the Summerdream household, not the Summerdream-Pleasant one.

  4. if you can't find them one less household to play this round. Hope none of them were 3 bolts for anybody.

    1. Sandra Roth and her husband Brent (formerly Broke, one of Brandi Broke's children) were/are 3-bolters. Sandra's younger brother, Xander, didn't have any special love interest.

You can read their last chapter by clicking on the label "Roth". The first post that will appear is this one, but the second post is their last week.

  5. Your #1 plan can actually be fairly dangerous for hood stability. If you package the Roths from a backup and reinstall them into your current game, they will bring "ghosts" of every sim they ever met or heard about, meaning you'll end up with a ton of useless character files. This can eventually lead to a hood crashing and burning. You can fix it but it requires a LOT of fiddling around in SimPE.

If you don't find the Roths in your hood and manage to invite them over and get them back that way, but you do find them in your backup, I would extract them with SimPE and then remake them in CAS. They would be completely vanilla in terms of skills, jobs, relationships, etc. but that's something else that can be fixed in SimPE.

    1. Thank you very much for this helpful info, Carla.
Yes, I know about the character overflow problem. Cleaning up each and every Sim's memory in SimPE was how I spent nearly a whole weekend before setting up New Maximiliania :-)
I still don't think I'll remake the Roths in CAS if they are well and truly lost. In that case, I will just accept it as if they had died, and will move on to the next household.

  6. oh no, I love the Roth's and was looking forward to seeing how Xander & Sandra got on.
I suppose you are too far ahead in the round from your last back up to start over?
I think if you added them as a backup you would experience loads of problems. Perhaps it's just one of those things, annoying as it is. :)

    1. I meant 'added as download'. :)

    2. You're right, I would only consider using my last back up if there were more problems with New Max, not just because one family has gone missing.

I still don't know what/how/why it happened, but looks like I can't get them back, at least not with my limited knowledge of SimPE.

  7. I wonder if you've discovered what happened yet as i am just reading this now and staying in order... i think if you tried to bulldoze even a buggy house with sims inside the dialogue would pop up no can do sims inside - roughly translated still i wonder where they did go..."SIMOATOAN" I do hope you find them because you've done a lot of work to lose even 1 is a sad occasion and would drive me nuts! good luck!

    1. Not found them yet, no, nor what happened. But once this round is completed, I'll re-organize the whole of New Maximiliania, and maybe I'll get to the bottom of it then.

Whether you play The Sims 2 yourself or not, it would be great hearing from you. As I will reply to comments regularly, please remember to come back if you have asked a question.
