The Newson Family: Week 8

This Maxis-made townhouse - fittingly located in Downtown New Max in my game - is home to the largest of several Newson households. Let's have a look at who lives here now.

In order of their age, first is Gavin Newson. He is 61 and wants nothing more in life than earning 100,000 Simoleons. He is close to reaching 50,000, all by selling his own paintings and occasionally giving a spot of financial consulting.

His sister Ginger is also 61. A typical family Sim, she wanted to see three children graduate from college for as long as she can remember - but although two of hers have made it, her son Nelson has tragically died during his college years.

Ginger is happy again, because she found and married her three-bolt man Clover.
The much younger man is one of Tybalt Capp's plantchildren turned human. He dreams of celebrating his Golden Anniversary with Ginger, but as he is still 12 days from Elderhood, it won't happen this round.

Ginger's son Nigel has moved back in with his Mom and Uncle Gavin after uni. By day, works hard at becoming Hall of Famer; by night, he is often stargazing.
He is in love with Hailey Hart (Matthew Hart's half-Alien daughter) and has a daughter with her, little Hannah.

Last but not least, there is Nellie - very much her mother's daughter with her thoughts often revolving around babies and falling in love (in that order). Nellie sees herself as future Education Minister of New Maximiliania and is diligently working her way up the Education career.

On this Monday morning, Ginger encounters her daughter in the living room. "I so wish for my pretty girl to find a good man to marry, and start her own family," she thinks.

Nellie happily returns from work that afternoon, announcing her promotion to University Guest Lecturer.

Meanwhile, her uncle Gavin has made a big wish come true: selling his latest painting straight from his ground floor bachelor pad / studio has boosted his earnings to 50,000 Simoleons.
I wonder whether he will be around long enough to achieve the second half of his lifetime want.

For Ginger, the day ends doing what she loves: serving Grilled Cheese sandwiches for everyone.

Tuesday morning it is - guess what - Grilled Cheese for breakfast. Nellie and Nigel reassure their mother that they all love her grilled cheese, no matter what time of the day (or night).

Clover has taken up running to keep as fit as his wife. She seems to appreciate his efforts.

Nellie has enlistet the Matchmaker's help for finding a man to love (and possibly marry). The first blind date is indeed a 3-bolt-man for her. But Stephen Benson is a townie and actually not eligible to become a proper New Maximilianian.

After accidentally gate-crashing his sister's blind date, Nigel goes dowstairs to chat with his uncle Gavin while he is busily painting his next masterpiece to sell.

Nellie tries again; the result is yet another townie, Zeeshan Kimbrell, but also a 3-bolt-man for her.

Thursday morning starts for Ginger and Clover with a very tender husband-and-wife moment.

Later, Ginger prepares breakfast (guess what it's going to be!) while Ginger clears the dining table of last night's dinner dishes.

Clover greets Gallagher Newson, one of his brothers-in-law, who comes visiting on his own accord.

Nigel has the day off and decides his Uncle Gallagher's visit is a good reason to invite more family members and some friends. Besides, he has not seen Hailey yet this week, and so she is also asked to join the group.

Of course she is the only one to receive this kind of welcome! Ginger has wisely ordered pizza; it makes a nice change from the household's usual Grilled Cheese diet.

Nellie returns from work and has been promoted to High School Principal.

She tries to talk to some of the male visitors (still hoping to find a New Maximilianian to fall in love with), but is not very successful in her attempts at conversation.

After everyone has gone home, Nigel discovers that the cleanbot has broken down and been spitting out rubbish all over the ground floor. He manages to turn it off and immediately repairs it, still thinking of the party he - as well as his guests - really enjoyed.

Then, he heads out to the telescope for the rest of the night, wondering whether he will ever meet the Aliens.

On Friday morning, Clover can't take his eyes off his wife as she bends over the broken bathtub to fix it ;-)

Later, he joins his brother-in-law in his groundfloor studio while Gavin is painting.

In the afternoon, first Nigel comes home from work with a promotion (he is now Coach)...

...and then Nellie. Meet the latest College Senior Professor of New Maximiliania!

Saturday morning sees brothers-in-law Clover and Gavin working side by side in the kitchen.

You know what this picture means, don't you!

Yes indeed, Nigel has been politely invited to visit the Aliens aboard their space craft... It is not a happy memory for him, but his uncle, sister and mother all cheer at his return. I did not hear the jingle, so maybe there is no souvenir in Nigel's belly.

After the early morning excitement, everybody needs a few more hours of sleep. Then the siblings go to work, and once they are back home, spend their evening unspectacularly by skilling. So much for their Saturday night.

For Gavin, Sunday starts by repairing the computer. It is a vital piece of equipment in this house, as everybody loves to blog, browse, chat or play.

Upstairs, Nellie rekindles her old friendship with Mr. Brick - she's known him all her life!

She then begins a new friendship when Lisa Gieke walks past. The two ladies have the same hairdo, and I like it how they seem to "mirror" each other.

Carmelo Capp, one of Clover's many relatives, also comes visiting and is greeted by his "Aunt" Ginger.

Clover makes pork chops - it is, after all, their Sunday dinner with guests, calling for more than the customary grilled cheese sandwiches Ginger would have preferred.

Gavin has just said good-bye to their guests, musing about Carmelo's hairdo. "Weird, but I suppose it is fashionable with young men these days," he thinks.

This was a fun week, even though I did not send the family to a community lot. Somehow, there was always something else going on.
I really like this house and the way I decorated and furnished it, years ago in real life. Next round, Nigel and Nellie are probably going to reach their lifetime wants. But will Nellie also find someone to love who is NOT an NPC townie? Clover will have to wait a bit longer, and Ginger never will make hers, unfortunately. Gavin has a good chance at reaching his, but he has to keep producing and selling those masterpieces at the easel, leaving him with little time for anything else.
